Gorilla on the loose in Morpeth

Added: 30-04-2008

Welcome to the News Page

Last Friday will long be remembered in the sleepy Northumberland town of Morpeth as the day a wild Gorilla managed to get loose and rampage around town. Thankfully nobody was hurt and the ape had the good sense to pop into the Last Night of Freedom offices for a photo shoot after his look around town.

Gorilla on the loose in Morpeth

Friday the 25th of April 2008 seemed like any other day at first, that was of course until a Gorilla managed to get loose and tear up the town, well have a little look around anyway. At first he was a little shy and had to be persuaded to leave the doorway where he had taken shelter from the rain but before long he was obviously feeling at home in this concrete jungle.
We sent Steve, the only ex zoo keeper at LNOF, out with a camera to make him feel at home and to capture the hilarious events which were undoubtedly about to happen, we were not dissapointed.

As you might expect any wild animal who has been hiding out as long as this guy had is going to be seriously hungry, inevitably the first stop was Greggs. The locals were clearly a little shocked when the animal entered their local eatery but they like to make people feel welcome in Morpeth so they went on about their business. Shiela, the lady behind the counter in Greggs, politely provided him with the 17 banana bakes he asked for (in a South African accent strangely enough).

After his snack our friend took a little walk up the street where he decided to purchase this weeks issue of the big issue, he likes to help out the community you see and although he doesnt like to talk about it he knows a little about what it's like to have nowehere to call home.

Finally, after all this excitement he decided to call into Last Night of Freedoms offices for a nap, we shamelessly took advantage of the situation as we needed a few pictures anyway to promote the fantastic gorilla costumes we are selling in our new stag night shop. Our friend was happy to pose for a few shots before catching a few hours sleep, he dissapeared over night, never to be seen again.

We are confident that he enjoyed his little tour of our home town and even if he didn't, we are so thankful he popped in so we could get those pictures for the website.
