In June 2008 the MD at Last Night of Freedom decided that it was high time he treated his staff to a weekend away, after all it had been a few months since our last jolly down to Brighton. The date was set as the weekend of the 7th of June, the location set as Edinburgh. The answer phones were turned on, computers turned off and cars fired up as we all headed north for a weekend of hilarious antics.
Upon arriving in Edinburgh, 2 hours late, we headed quickly to the restaurant where we dined in style. In less than 30 minutes every member of the group managed a full burger and chips style meal, two pints of their favourite beverage and a massive cocktail. We then sprinted out of the restaurant to our next venue.
The ghost tour was something a bit different for everybody. Our guide took us on a tour of the city through graveyards and underground labyrinths explaining parts of the cities gruesome history. After the tour we went to an excellent club followed swiftly by the most dangerous journey home ever as we all bundled into three rickshaws and persuaded the drivers to race each other.
Saturday morning began with watching our MD on live national television (as you do) before heading out on a scavenger hunt titled "Last Night of Freedom does the apprentice". The title seemed rather strange as we all already worked for the company.... fearing for our jobs we all frantically scoured the streets for items such as astronaut food, magic flutes and a lychee.
Saturday afternoon provided possibly the best entertainment of the weekend as we all attended a burlesque lesson (much to the surprise of the instructor who had never taught guys before). Let me tell you, you haven't lived until you have witnessed your sales manager jumping up and down topless with tassels stuck on his nipples, it was a special moment for us all.
Saturday night saw us enjoy a trip on the party bus, we visited a few bars for some complimentary drinks before the evening descended into what can only be described as carnage. The group fragmented slightly as can happen and as is tradition Will was kindly asked to leave the club due to losing the ability to stand up. Everyone eventually made it home safe and sound and on Sunday morning everybody exchanged apologies and paranoid glares at each other before heading off home to sleep it off.
A top notch weekend which we hope will be one of many, after all we have to test out the products we sell, it's a real downside to the job. You can see the full photo gallery on our Edinburgh hen gallery page.
