Sitting in the centre of the Midlands is the UK’s second largest city, and for some the alternative capital, Birmingham. Reachable by several major motorways, rail links and its own international airport, this is an easy place to get to, although bear in mind the notoriously slow moving traffic in and around the city when you’re planning your journey time there and back by road.

By train, 1hr 30mins is the journey time from London, whilst it’s 4hrs 15mins from Edinburgh.
Birmingham’s motorway links are the M5 from Bristol, the M1 from London and the M6 (via the M74) from Glasgow.
