The Blue Lagoon is one of the most visited attractions in Iceland.
The lagoon originally gained popularity for its supposed healing powers, and whilst time has dispelled any mythology surrounding the Blue Lagoon, this geothermal spa is beneficial for your skin, as well as being a haven of tranquillity.
As if the warm lagoon wasn't enough, here you can soothe away any trace of a hangover with a range of relaxing experiences. There are saunas and steam rooms, or you could try a mud mask, a massage actually in the water, or let the man-made waterfall work wonders on tired shoulders and stiff muscles.
The Science Bit: The geothermal water has a unique composition with three active ingredients; silica, algae and minerals – and the blue colour comes from the way the silica reflects in the sunlight.
Good to Know: The lagoon, boasting an average temperature of 37-40 degrees, and is self-cleaning, renewing itself every 40 hours.
