Get banged up abroad on your last night of freedom with a unique prison experience, on a disused Russian military base. This place was, in fact, a military prison which went out of service ten years ago when the Russian army withdrew from Latvia. Until then, it was used by the Russian navy to detain sailors for various crimes committed during their active service – it even has all of the original facilities and equipment.
Upon arrival, you and your fellow 'prisoners' will undergo a search and medical assessment, before you are photographed for original prisoner registration cards (which are even sent out to you later) and interrogated.
This activity is operated by some of the terrifying, original staff and takes nerves of steel to stand up to their punishments – involving push-ups, jogging whilst wearing gas masks, as well as a lot of shouting and general pushing around (standard behaviour…). Once that is all done, you'll be left in the eerie prison cells that can be locked, or left open to wander around the spooky site. And, you'll be pleased to hear that a 3am drill is optional.
You can also use the canteen and tuck into an authentic, Russian prisoners menu, and you'll be taken back to the hotel the next morning after a seriously unforgettable night.
