Top Ten

Since we started out in 1999, we’ve sent hundreds of thousands of stags and hens off to far flung corners of the globe, for activity and nightlife-crammed weekends they’d never forget. Location trends have fluctuated hugely this year, with Marbella controversially dropping out of our top 10 and the likes of Cardiff and Leeds stepping up to the top. So, as the year draws to a close, we’re taking a look at our top ten hen do locations of 2018.

Oliver St. John Gogarty pub at night

Yep, it’s up there again at number one, just pipping our home town of Newcastle to the post. It really is no surprise that Dublin has remained at number one position; with multiple shopping centres and boutique streets, plenty of clandestine cocktail bars and those charming Irish lads, it really is a hen do haven.

Our Geordie hometown is a non-mover this year, coming in at a close number two on our top hen party destinations of 2018. Not only is it home to some of the biggest and best bars on the planet (more of those in our Hen Do Guide to Newcastle), but it’s got over 250 hen do activities to its name, such as the top selling Diamond Strip Cocktail Workshop (as seen on Geordie Shore) and the exclusive Geordie Games.

Liverpool's Docklands at night with the city skyline in the background.

Another non-mover who has secured their place in LNOF’s top three for two years running is lively Liverpool. Last year Liverpool had climbed three places up our top 10 hen party destinations, and with so much competition, it’s done exceedingly well to cement its number three spot. We are expecting big things from this destination in 2019.

View of the Edinburgh skyline as the sun goes down.

The picturesque and original ‘city of two halves’ has cemented its place at fourth position in our top ten since 2016. The olde worlde charm of the city appeals to the cultured among groups, but there’s also a wicked underbelly of high-end cocktail classes and huge nightclubs between the Old and New Towns. With the Christmas markets and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival massive highlights on Edinburgh’s busy social calendar, we can’t imagine this one is going anywhere fast.

Just last year, Brighton was a new entry into our top 10 hen do locations, and since then it’s just gone from strength to strength. Climbing two places since 2017, Brighton is rapidly becoming one of our top selling hen party destinations, and it’s easy to see why. Its beautifully Bohemian seafront and deck chair lined beaches live harmoniously among the city’s many hen-friendly bars and high-end nightclubs; it’s got it all.

Boats docked at night in Leeds marina

Leeds hasn’t been in our top 10 since 2016, where it reached a mere tenth position. But 2018 has seen great things for the northern city, as it crept up on our blind side and swept into sixth place. This achingly cool destination has a large student population, meaning that, luckily for our hen groups, lots of the bars have mega discounts on their drinks – meaning your hen party kitty will stretch that little bit further…

Our cool capital has dropped another two places in our top 10 this year, making way for other up and coming UK locations including the aforementioned Leeds. The city does have a huge list of hen friendly activities to its name, including everything from hen party classics like dance and cocktail classes, to more out-of-the-box activities like the Mini Cooper Italian Job Challenge and afternoon teas on an actual London bus.

A Fisheye shot of the Printworks building in Manchester at night.

Falling two places since 2017, Manchester maintains its spot in our top 10 hen party locations of 2018. With a wealth of nightlife zones to its name, as well as impressive hen do activities like The Fitzgerald Tipsy Afternoon Tea Party and making truffles with a naked chocolatier – it’s no surprise Manchester always makes the cut.

View of Bourenmouth Pier from the beach at night.

The comeback is here. Bursting into our top 10 hen locations for the first time since 2013, Bournemouth is an amazing spot for a hen do, knocking Bristol, Cardiff and Marbella off their top spot. Apart from the practically abroad climate and stunning views (no, we don’t just mean the Dreamboys), there are hundreds of day and night activities to get your teeth stuck into. We expect big things for this seaside resort in the coming years.

A view of the Barcelona skyline during the day with a colourful mosaque wall in the fore-ground.

After the halcyon days of 2015, Barcelona disappeared out of our top 10 – but not for long. Knocking the likes of Marbella and Cardiff clean out of the top 10 hen do locations of 2018, the colourful Catalan capital means business. With some of the most iconic tourist attractions in the world, and the likes of best-selling hen fiesta and VIP Champagne sunset cruises, plus that balmy sun – Barcelona is a hen do no brainer.

If one of your besties is getting hitched, it’s up to you to sort the hen – so why not use our top 10 for a bit of inspiration? Alternatively, if none of our most popular spots caught your eye, why not have a look at our 56 other hen party locations and create your own bespoke hen do package.
