The crowd is lively, but it’s not just young‘uns… a huge number of Newcastle natives head over to Jesmond once the temperature reaches over 6°C (it is the North East). It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen (or heard) before, and the main bars on the legendary Osborne Road are within 100 yards of each other.

Just a short taxi, or even metro, from the centre of Newcastle – this district extends from Osborne Road, to neighbouring Archbold Terrace and Jesmond Vale. Recognised as the starting point to a night in the city, the bars typically open from 11am – it’s a day drinker’s paradise. Whilst there may only be a few venues open until the wee early hours (you’ll have stumbled into town…), it’s bouncing as soon as the sun rises.

Osbornes, on Osborne Road (easy to remember after a few), is the Big Daddy. It’s the start of all good nights in Jesmond, and is slap-bang in the centre of it all. Osbornes has three bars, set over two venues, and is a sterling choice for craft ales and beer. All of this rubs along nicely with the epic Man Vs Food challenge and the regular FIFA gaming nights, as well as footy matches on the big screen, live music and beer pong. Osbornes’ ‘Sheesha’ Garden is the first of its kind in Newcastle, with exotic flavours ranging from Paan Masala to Double Apple.

The Blue Bell is packed full of students and locals, come rain or shine. The traditionally English pub, and Jesmond Vale’s resident secret, is all-about comfort food and drink – serving a huge range of ales and craft beers. All of these can be enjoyed in, what it is often voted, Newcastle’s best beer garden. The mega garden (or field) is filled with benches, lights for when it gets dark and one of the busiest crowds after dark. It typically shuts at midnight on a weekend – just in time for you to go on your merry way into the centre.

This cool, calm and luxurious bar is the finer side of the, already affluent, Jesmond. Based around an English manor house and garden, it’s dripping in exclusivity and booze. The Zombie, a Newcastle legend laced with spirits, The Freaky Tiki, Bitter Sweet Symphony and Alice in Sunder-Land are just some of the drinks you can sup in the stately grandfather chairs. All of this alcohol even comes in at happy hour, running twice on busy Saturdays. You’ve got 50% off rum and Tiki cocktails, selected pints at £2.20 and doubles at a mere £3.20. You’ve gotta love the north.

Luckily for you, that’s exactly why you’re in Newcastle for your stag do. They also have the daily happy hour game, with the option of winning free drinks. The curious little challenge involves the ‘happy hour button’ - illuminated red and pressed for a chance to get another drink, completely free.

The Jam Jar is Jesmond wrapped up in a quirky venue. It’s unpretentious, yet eclectic - expect to bump into Rupert tucking into his statement burger and monstrous steak. It’s industrial and minimalist, and tailored tipples and gastro pub food are its forte. The cocktails are often laced with ‘special jams’ and there’s more than enough craft beer and continental lager to take you through the weekend. But, we’re here for the beer garden – and the Jam Jar has a massive one out front. On the same street as the gardens of Osbornes, Spy and the like – it’s always packed full, but there’s plenty of seating to rest those legs in preparation for the celebrations.

It’s also open ‘til 2am for those staying out past their bedtime. You can even do karaoke there, but we’d suggest booking ahead.

Cash, Cabs and Kebabs

Cash Machines

Cash machines are dotted around the district's takeaways, and there are even three within a five minute walk (the Geordies have got their priorities right). Tesco Metro is just off the main strip, on Acorn Road, along with Barclays, and for those feeling a bit too posh – little Waitrose ATM is directly on Osborne Road.

Taxis

Jesmond may be just outside of the city centre, but it couldn’t be easier to get to – even after your craft beers, cask ales, cocktails… Jesmond Metro is at the start of the busy street, surrounded by bars, and West Jesmond is at the other end. To put it in perspective, it’s a three minute, direct metro to Monument. However, if manoeuvring a metro after spending the day down Osborne Road is as likely as you getting in before the next morning… there’s a taxi rank on the ‘strip’. The Hackney Carriages will take you wherever you so please – such as the legendary Bigg Market – for a mere £6.

Takeaways

You can go all that way with the help of a trusty kebab. The famous Osborne Pizza, loved by students, locals, businessmen, you name it... is just of Osborne Road. But, you've got the likes of A Taste of Persia and other cool restaurants on the doorstep of these big bars.

After all of that info, we can assume you are ready for the stag do in wor city. It just so happens that you can build your own celebration on our Newcastle stag weekends page.
