Cambridge Theatre

Cambridge Theatre brings a little bit of magic to Earlham Street. Situated in London’s famous West End, and built in 1929-30, for British theatre producer and entrepreneur Bertie Meyer – the theatre is housed on an ‘irregular triangular site’, as Meyer wished. The Grade II listed building is built in steel and concrete, and is characterised by its elegant and clean lines of design, as well as its moderne, expressionist style.

The original, luxurious gold and silver décor was painted over in red, during a 1950s refurbishment, as well as plush candelabras and chandeliers being added. The 1,231 capacity theatre now has been restored to its original décor, and has a circular entrance foyer, with sculptor Gringling’s bronze frieze depicting nude figures dancing and exercising.

Previous productions have included everything from the foot tapping Chicago musical, to the controversial Jerry Springer Opera – and is currently running the childhood classic, Matilda the Musical.
