Will Johnson joined Last Night of Freedom in 2005 as part of his year in industry while studying for a BA (Hons) in Business at Manchester Metropolitan University. After returning to the business full time, Will played a key role in developing the company’s online accessories and costumes from its early stages into one of the UK’s leading specialist retailers. During this period, Will oversaw multiple warehouse expansions, the development of in-house manufacturing capabilities, and the launch of the company’s t-shirt printing and embroidery division. p>
In 2016, Will became a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) through the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), achieving the global high score in his final Strategic Case Study examination. As Finance Director, he has overseen more than £100m in total turnover as well as leading the company through significant periods of growth and operational change, including the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. His responsibilities included managing large-scale customer refunds, securing and repaying Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS) funding, overseeing furlough administration, and working closely with ABTA to ensure ongoing compliance with Package Travel Regulations and financial protection requirements.
Today, Will continues to oversee the company’s financial strategy and operations, with particular expertise in foreign currency hedging and Tour Operators Margin Scheme (TOMS) VAT. In 2021, he established the company’s partnership with Serenity Travel Trusts, enabling the creation of a Client Fund Trust Account to provide additional financial reassurance for customers. Under his financial leadership, Last Night of Freedom has continued to strengthen its balance sheet through a strategy of prudent reinvestment and long-term financial stability.
