Overview
Try your hand at the most popular sports in Ireland with this Gaelic Games session
Who said that a celebratory weekend like this one shouldn't be a chance to try something completely new? With this fantastic, popular activity you and your group will all get a chance to sample two of the most popular sports in Ireland; hurling and Gaelic football.
Hurling dates all the way back from the 7th century and involves running with and hitting a small, baseball-sized ball with wooden bats called 'hurleys'. Gaelic football is more recent, first played in 1885, and involves carrying, bouncing, kicking and passing a football-sized ball with the aim of scoring either points or goals.
Including venue hire, all equipment as well as instruction from professional GAA-accredited coaches (who specialise in working with beginners, don’t worry), this is a very thorough activity that will fill up a good chunk of your afternoon. All that you need to bring with you is an enthusiastic attitude.
By the time you’ve picked up the basics, competitive streaks will without a doubt be bubbling to the surface all over the shop, so just make sure you’re all still friends for the night out a few hours later…
