The Hofbrauhaus group, which translates to 'Royal Brewery', started in the home of Bavaria, Munich, in the 1500s – and it's a tradition that is continued today. Basically, it's one huge space where everyone drinks, eats and dances on the table – and we'll sort out you main meal, stein and entertainment from a live Oompah band.
There are two different and popular Hofbrauhaus venues in Hamburg – one is located on the Esplanade and the other is in Speersort. The Esplanade hall was the first beer house outside of Bavaria to open its doors, drawing in thousands from all over the world, and serves freshly tapped Hofbrau beer from the original brewery in Munich, as well as gorgeous Bavarian dishes. The Speersort hall is set in an old press building, right in the centre of the city. This place is massive, with two floors and a beer garden to soak up the traditional Bavarian atmosphere. And, for that all-round German experience – the waiters and waitresses are in full lederhosen and beer maid garb.
