Best Belfast Nightlife Areas for a Hen Do

Belfast is a relatively small city meaning you've only got a couple of nightlife areas to choose from. However, what it lacks in quantity, it makes up in quality. Plus, Belfast is so densely packed with bars, you will still be spoilt for choice. Here's the lowdown on the famous Cathedral Quarter and the fun and student-heavy Queen's Quarter.

    Cathedral Quarter

Taking its name from St Anne’s Cathedral, this is THE place to be when living it up in Belfast; you can’t do Belfast without coming here. The Cathedral Quarter, that you will find in the North of the city, is absolutely strewn with bars and pubs. There’s a great range of places to grab a Guinness, from cute little traditional Irish pubs, where you might see a musician or two spontaneously playing the violin, to huge pubs with mega beer gardens, like The Dirty Onion and Yardbird. Here you will also find iconic clubs such as Ollie’s. The guided bar crawl we offer takes place in the Cathedral Quarter, with a local guide showing you the hot spots.

    Queen's Quarter

The southernmost quarter in Belfast is called the Queen’s Quarter. This is because it is home to Queens University, meaning unsurprisingly it’s quite student-heavy. It’s not as nightlife heavy as the Cathedral Quarter, but you do still have some great venues here such as Alibi, which is a fantastic bar and club spread over three floors. You’ll find a few great pubs here too such as the mega popular Lavery's, which is actually Belfast’s oldest family-owned pub that has a lush rooftop terrace. The Queen’s Quarter is also home to The Belfast Empire Music Hall, which is three floors of bars and music. This also where you’ll find the famous Botanic Gardens, perfect for a calm hungover stroll.

What Time of Year is Best to go on a Belfast Stag Do?

The best time of year for a hen do in Belfast is late spring to early autumn (May to September), when the weather is milder, days are longer, and outdoor activities like city tours, pub crawls, and riverside events are more enjoyable. This period also offers the best chance for sunny days, making it easier to explore the city and enjoy Belfast’s vibrant nightlife. During the summer holidays it can be busy so we’d recommend getting everything booked in advance if you’re planning on going then.

She’s also stayed in many of LNOF’s accommodation options, so she knows what’s good. As well as copywriting, Hannah has had many plays produced professionally and has written/performed comedy sketches for BBC Newcastle. She also won the Hunter Davies Young Writers Award for her piece of travel writing.
