If you’ve ever watched the hit BBC show The Traitors on TV and fancied a go at it yourself, well now you can! Some of our staff visited Edinburgh to give this trending stag and hen activity a go. We headed to Tigerlily, a gorgeous flower-laden cocktail bar found in Edinburgh’s New Town for our very own game of The Traitors. FYI, we have more fab activities that take place at Tigerlily such as , and .
Our (not so) round table!
This version of the game was called , so instead of traitors and faithfuls you had backstabbers and villagers. Waiting for us was, no not Claudia Winkleman, but our lovely host Kate. Kate told us that there was a Home Bargain’s tote bag full of prizes to be won… as well as how the game would run. We were each secretly given a role to play these included the backstabbers (the traitors), the villagers (the faithful), the inspector (a faithful with the power to reveal someone else’s role once per round) and the shield (a faithful with the power to protect themselves or another player from murder once per round).
Kate instructed us to put our blindfolds on whilst she walked around and tapped us on the shoulder to give us our roles … just like the past, the present and the future….it was tense. I was picked to be the inspector.
Our host thinking about who to pick as traitors
Forgetting the backstabbers for now, our first team game, during which we could win prizes, was about to begin. We were told that these games could be as big or small as the space we were in. This particular space was quite intimate but in no way did that ruin the fun. If you get a larger space other games can be played such as keeping up a beach ball. Our first game, however, was a general knowledge quiz. We had to answer a variety of questions from questions on sitcoms to questions on famous actresses.
Quiz finished (we did rather well FYI), it was time for the first murder. Our masks went on which meant it was nighttime in backstabbers village and at nighttime… the murderers come out. But first our inspector (me) got to reveal the identity of another player…. I picked someone who was just a villager dammit. Then the shield had to protect someone. Our backstabbers decided who would be the first victim of the game.
The shield will protect you...for one night
“Cock-a-doodle-doo” said our host in a cheery voice. It was morning in backstabber village which meant the masks came off. “There’s been a murder” she continued. Turns out that Emma had been offed in the night, but who would do such a thing?! Suspicions were starting to build. Kate explained that if you’re killed in these games you get to go to the “ghost gallery” but you still get to take part in all the games.
The second team game consisted of searching the room for little cars that were hidden all over. This included a golden car which came with a shield which Billie won. This meant she was protected from murder for this round. We’d won some more prizes, but we had more pressing matters…. Banishing the traitors!
I can spell really (honest!)
Like in the game we had to vote who for someone we thought were the traitors. Getting into the spirit of the game, some of us went for very creative spellings of our colleague’s names. I did some very bad spellings which funnily Becky thought was just how I spelt… not ideal as I’m the content writer (think I’d have been fired some time ago if this was the case)!
But who were the traitors? It could be almost impossible to work out…. Except it wasn’t. On the show there’s a saying “The traitors are laughing at us”, Shauna took this a bit literally and laughed her head off. Yes, she was a traitor, and yes, she got voted out immediately. As a traitor had been banished straight away, the remaining traitor decided to recruit another traitor to carry out their dastardly deeds.
Then the rest of the games ran in the same fashion with murders, banishments and team games galore. Other games we played included name that tune and paper airplanes. Christie got revealed as a traitor and several more players got murdered leaving me, Akash, Rebekah, Billie and Matt in the final. I was the inspector, but I didn’t know who the traitor was, all I knew it that it wasn’t Matt. I guessed Akash was the remaining traitor and was right, so he got voted out. The faithful were victorious, meaning the goodie bag was ours (get in!).
Traitor reveal 💅✨
All that was left to do was reveal our roles. It turns out that our boss Matt was the shield and made a big show of picking who to protect from murder each round before protecting himself(!). Also, Akash recruited Christie and immediately threw her under the bus! You think you can trust your colleagues, eh?
We thoroughly enjoyed our spell at and can see how it would work perfectly for stag and hen groups. It would work as the ultimate ice breaker and was honestly so much fun. We tried this in Edinburgh but it’s available in a 21 UK locations including , London, and York.
