LNOF Try Boom Battle Bar (in Edinburgh)

LNOF got competitive with crazier golf and augmented reality darts.

Jul 2026

As part of our trip to Scotland, we decided to head to Boom Battle Bar. Found just a short walk from Edinburgh Waverley train station, Boom Battle Bar is a chain gaming bar found all over the UK. We know that they’re not all exactly the same because we also tried Boom Battle Bar in Liverpool.

Think you know crazy golf...think again!

All Boom Battle Bars have loads of different games for you to play. This one had shuffleboard, karaoke booths, crazier golf, augmented reality golf and axe throwing. We couldn’t test axe throwing this time because we’d already had a drink. So, a heads up to do axe throwing first before grabbing some bevs if you want to do this for your stag or hen.

First up was Crazier Golf , yes you read that right, “Crazier”. Forget your average mini golf rules this game turned everything on its head making for a challenging yet super fun game. Every hole brought a new surprise. One of my favorites was the one where you had to hit the golf ball with a baseball bat, as someone with no hand eye co-ordination I was very surprised that I manage to hit it first time. Just call me Babe Ruth.

Other favorite holes included one where you had to fire a catapult at the hole, one where it was like table football (and your fellow players had to try and stop you getting it into the hole) and the final one where you had to hit it up a tricky ramp. In our little group, I actually won and I never win anything, so that was nice.

Before we moved onto the darts we had a tasty buffet to enjoy. This was most welcome as we had been power walking around Edinburgh to get to different activities and there’s a lot of steps! The buffet included dishes such as chicken wings, carbonara bites, cauliflower bites, fries, sweet potato fries, chicken tenders, a multitude of dips and more.

Wings for the win!

Having chowed down on the buffet, it was time for darts! As with crazier golf, this is not just darts. This is which means two things. One, the board adds up the score for you and two you get to play a series of fun mini games.

We tried our hand at a couple of games. These included one where you had to kill aliens (Sorry E.T) and one where you had to try and take control of the board to win. At LNOF we’re no strangers to this kind of darts. Our favourite game is called Killer, which is a savage game where you need to ‘kill’ (eliminate) your fellow players to reign victorious. I actually ended up winning this too, I genuinely never win so maybe Boom Battle Bar is my sport. As we had a train to catch, we sadly didn’t get to try all the game modes out, but we could tell that there was something for everyone.!

Ehehehe (I won)

In general Boom Battle Bar is fabulous if you have a group that like to get competitive with each other. Also, games such as Axe Throwing, Crazier Golf and , much like a heavy penguin, are great at breaking the ice.
