LNOF Try

Team LNOF tried e-karting, bowling and batting cages for an experience that was out of this world!

Sept 2024

Located in the iconic Liverpool One shopping centre, is a huge entertainment complex packed to the rafters with all sorts of fun and games. This includes go-karting, bowling, batting cages, mini golf, e-darts, virtual reality gaming, shuffleboard, arcade machines and more. We were booked in to try karting, bowling and batting cages – we couldn’t wait!

It's not all fun and games (it is)

When we first stepped inside, we were impressed by how spacious it was and how flash everything looked. The first thing to catch our eye was the sheer amount of arcade machines there were to play on including air hockey, punch bags and basketball hoops. The second thing to catch our eye was the massive and colourful multi-level go karting track that was flashing all manner of different colours. It looked a bit like Rainbow Road from Super Mario, but obviously a lot safer (and not fictional)!

Much to our delight (we’re very competitive), Karting was our first activity of the day. We got suitably suited and booted with all the appropriate gear and were shown a safety video. Then it was time to race. We stepped on it and zoomed off faster than Lewis Hamilton on a promise. *Some* of us got disqualified for being crap (okay it was literally just me, this doesn’t happen very often to people, I just have a talent of being very bad at things). For those of us not disqualified (literally everyone else), we were having a great time whizzing around the track. It was Hannah L who was the ultimate winner, followed by Drew coming in second and Christie taking third place. Of course, the winners wanted to pose on the winner’s podium – kart blame them!

After that it was time for a spot of ten pin bowling. As far as ten pin bowling goes this was pretty unique because you could choose the game mode and different things would appear on the floor such as stars and rainbows. The lights would follow the ball down the alley. The graphics really ‘bowled’ us over. Other than that, it was just classic ten pin bowling, but we all had so much fun –a couple of us even got strikes!. Bowling is definitely an underrated group activity.

Sssssstrike (probably)

Finally, we had a go at batting cages. A batting cage is exactly how it sounds… it’s batting…. In a cage. This unique activity had us standing in a cage whilst lots of balls shot out at us and it was our job to bat them on to the 'multiple scored targets shown on an interactive screen. Despite us selling willy-related items, we weren’t very good at handling loads of balls…

You could choose to play cricket, baseball or tennis. We played cricket first and before we knew it the balls were coming thick and fast. It even had an animation of a person bowling at you and when they bowled, the ball would be released from the screen. This was something we’d never seen before so if you are wanting something a bit unique to do on your last night of freedom, we’d defo recommend this.

Having a ball....

We were meant to go to the food court, but sadly we had to rush off to our next booked activity of the weekend. This was a shame because we’d heard some really good things about the food here. They have a food court on the upper level with loads of places to eat including Wendy’s, Street Greek, Rebel Wings, 800 Degrees Pizza and Coco di Mama. It is truly a mecca of street food.

Come on zoe, you can do it!

We ended our time at Gravity by playing a little more on the arcade machines. Drew even managed to win a toy seagull on the claw machine. He wanted one because a seagull stole his chips when he was hungover when we visited Bristol.

A gaming heaven

All in all, we were very impressed with Gravity (the entertainment complex not the force that keeps us on the ground, although that’s pretty good too). It’s a great place to get competitive with your mates and play a wide variety of fun and exciting games. Plus, it’s dead central so there’s no faffing on with taxis, indoors (so if it rains it doesn’t matter) and it’s not something where you will be working up a sweat to do it!
