As a part of our Christmas party, we decided to hit up for a spot of mini golf… our experience was certainly not below par! When we entered, we were shown to our reserved tables, where our hosts gave out golf visors for all of us to wear.
Below par? Below CAR more like
We immediately put these on and honestly, we have never looked hotter. We were also given a couple of drinks tokens to use at the bar and wristbands that told us which golf team we were going to be in. We were split into three different golfing teams and were set off on the course at different times.
We were in group three, so we had to wait a short while whilst the other teams set off. This just meant we had time to hit up the bar first. There’s nothing like a cheeky glass of gin to help your golfing confidence – not that we really need it because we’re mint.
The fun was ramping up
Finally, it was time to hit the course. We were given a golf club and a ball, that we got to choose from a range of colourful balls. There are three different 9-hole courses you can play at Junkyard Golf, these are Bozo, Pablo and Gary. The Bozo course has a creepy circus theme. The Pablo course features volcanos, pirates and bears (oh my!). And finally, the Gary course is vehicle themed with a healthy smattering of UV décor. We were going to be playing the Gary course.
The first hole we played was one where you had to hit the ball all the way around a large wheel from a car. Matt went up first and managed to smash this one out of the park. For the rest of us, this was not so easy. On my first shot I managed to lose the ball entirely (losing balls in mini golf is a particular skill of mine). Several of my fellow team members enjoyed the same fate with balls going everywhere. It was very funny but doing nothing for our scores.
The best mini golfers in the world (probably)
Luckily (for all of our self-esteems) the rest of the course was easier than the first hole. After a couple of holes, we entered this amazing neon room where the balls (and some of our clothing!) glowed fluorescently under the UV lights. There were several holes in this room, including one where you had to hit the ball up a ramp into a hole and this would then take your ball down a little slide. Which slide your ball went down would determine how close to the hole your ball would end up.
We car-t fault this mini golf
We came out of the neon room, and it was time to tackle a couple of car-themed holes. This included a golf hole themed around the iconic three-wheeler from Only Fools and Horses. You can bet that we all felt like right plonkers trying to get a hole in one on this hole. But (Del) boy was it a fun hole to play! The final hole was also car-themed. But to make things even more fun, there was a slide at the end, which some of us had a go at. You’re never too old for a slide!
It was time for the scores on the doors (or to be more literal… the scores on the scoresheet). Matt and Matilde were joint first and I somehow ended up being second, despite losing my ball straightaway. We had a cracking time here and the experience left us all wanting to come back to try out the two other courses.
Wheeeeeeee
