Moonshine Saloon is an immersive cocktail experience that’s found in and . We visited the Liverpool One which is found a stone’s throw from the buzzing Concert Square. This unique activity merges drinking with being thrown headfirst into a cowboy themed storyline. It uses professional actors, props and costumes. The experience is ‘bring your own booze’ where you have to sneak in ‘Moonshine’ (alcohol of your choice) and the staff will whip you up several rounds of tasty cocktails. We couldn’t wait to ‘stirrup’ some trouble!
As soon as you queue up outside, there’s cowboy themed décor plastered all over the windows, giving you an idea of what a rootin’ tootin’ time you’re in for. We were met by Johnny Cassidy who greeted us and asked who the leader of the group was. Zoe said Emma thinking she meant who made the booking, but this made Emma ‘The Mayor’, which meant she ended up with audience participation throughout the event.
It was time to enter, but there was a problem, none of us looked like cowboys, let alone moonshiners! This was soon rectified as Clyde Cassidy, the head of the Cassidy empire, passed us cowboy hats and the cosiest ponchos ever. We now looked the part, so were ready to step back in time to the wild wild west…
We were brought into the bar area which had atmospheric lighting and charming wild west themed décor. There was even an old honky-tonky style piano in the corner. There were cards, dice and fake money on the table so you could play games. We played higher or lower, and us being us, we turned it into a drinking game. Akash even did a magic trick, sadly he’s no Houdini and probably won’t end up hitting Vegas any time soon.
Then we were asked if we snuck any Moonshine in with us, we had and it consisted of spiced rum, two vodkas and a pink gin. There was an illicit Moonshine business going on at the saloon, but we were told no matter what we do…. Don’t tell Adam!
We were all asked what kind of cocktails we liked to make sure they would make us something that the group were all happy with. We ended up with a delicious mojito, which was the first of four rounds of cocktails that were to receive throughout the activity. You could say we were getting ‘boot-legless’ …
Everything was feeling lovely and relaxed but UH OH! Who’s this? It was the sheriff, and he had more beef than a half pounder cheeseburger. Storming in and swinging the saloon doors open (just like in the films!!) the sheriff had a couple of matters to bring to everyone’s attention…
We don’t want to give too much of the storyline away (you should go yourselves, honestly, it’s great) but throughout the activity things got pretty tense… with talk of murder and train robberies. You would watch a theatre scene then go back to enjoying your cocktails then there would be another thrilling theatre scene.
There was lots of other fun along the way including photo opportunities and lots of Emma being picked on as the mayor (including her having to put forward her policies for the next election). We were even taken off to a secret room for a sly shot of Moonshine with Clyde Cassidy who was running the illicit Moonshine business.
We weren’t quite sure what to expect but we all thoroughly enjoyed it, even those of us who aren’t massively into theatre or audience participation. It’s great if you’re wanting to do something a bit different on your stag or hen to and .
