This hilarious and raucous activity started off with the art tutor introducing us to the life models (one male, one female) for the session who were sat in dressing gowns… to start with. This is both a stag and hen activity so to test it properly there had to be a nominated stag and hen from the group which ended up being the reluctant Drew and Hannah S (me!! I’m still blushing to this day).
The first job for the stag and hen was to de-robe the life models. This should have been Hannah de-robing the male life model and Drew de-robing the female life model but for fun we swapped them over which Hannah was quite relieved about... even if Drew wasn’t! By this time the prosecco was flowing (essential).
With the models bearing all…. It was time to make a start! We had all been given the arts materials we required which consisted of large sketch books and charcoal pencils. We were split into two groups with half the group drawing the female life model and half the group drawing the male life model.
Trying to stifle giggles, pencil finally hit paper, which was good because it gave all of us somewhere to look. What came out of this round of drawing was very interesting and of varied quality. Some of us in the office are like Michelangelo… whilst some of us are like Michaelangel-oh-no. There were prizes for the best drawings too. The picture of the male model that won the prize was the one that was the most flattering (it had the largest appendage….). The person with the worst drawing had to do a shot, which was Hannah L who drew everything but the appendage.
For the next round of drawing Hannah and Drew then had to do a pose with the models based on the suggestions of the group. Don’t worry, it’s not as rude as you think! Also, this was at work so if you do it for your stag or hen it could well be cheekier. Thankfully for (Hannah and Drew) the poses were fairly safe for work… some of the drawings were less than flattering though, thanks guys.
Then we had a crazy round which is where we all had to draw a section of the model each, so the first person would draw the head and shoulders, the next person the torso, the next person the…um... private area…. and the final person the legs. The result of this was a mish mash of body parts that should never ever be brought to life like Frankenstein’s monster.
The last thing we did as a bonus was that Hannah was blindfolded whilst the rest of the group placed stickers over the male life model’s body. Hannah then, wearing her blindfold, had to feel over his body (with help from the group telling her up or down) to find and pick off the stickers. HR had to get involved…. Just kidding! It was all safe for work…. Well as safe for work as feeling up a nude man whilst blindfolded can be.
What we learnt about life drawing is that it’s less about the actual art and more about having a laugh and making memories with your pals. Also, you end up with a very cool memento from your last night of freedom…. It’s just maybe not one for the fridge. Nude life drawing is offered in loads of our locations both UK and abroad.
