The Diamond Strip

The Diamond Strip, is a term first coined by the Geordie Shore gang. It describes the street that runs along to the right from the train station. This street is absolutely chocka with bars and clubs from Revolution to Flares to to . At night, it’s absolutely buzzing with an electric atmosphere. If you’re having a hen in Newcastle, you’re gonna want this on your list.

Lane 7

Yes, a lot of cities have a Lane 7 bowling alley, but there’s nothing like the brand new one that has just opened in the toon. There’s the original Lane 7 found near to St James and the new one, near to The Gate which is absolutely massive. This place truly is a hen’s playground with classic ten pin bowling, darts, ping pong, karaoke, pool and loads more. You literally cannot get bored here. We’re sure it will ‘bowl’ your pals over.

Go on a Bar Crawl

Newcastle has some of the best bars and clubs around – fact. From the only bar to have a ball pit, Howlers, to the home of cheesy bangers and throwbacks, Flares, to stylish Cuba-themed bar Revolución de Cuba. You can get a fab Newcastle Nightlife Wristband which will get you into 10+ bars and clubs for just £12; we wouldn’t recommend doing Newcastle without it.

Bottomless Brunch

We simply couldn’t talk about hen dos without mentioning the magical concept that is bottomless brunch. You get a brunch dish, then people bring you, and keep on bringing you alcohol, what’s not to love? In Newcastle you have got loads of options from well-known chains such as Revolution and Las Iguanas to Manahatta, which is the new kid on the block, specialising in NYC-themed food and drink.

Afternoon Tea

If you fancy something a little classy, then why not book your group in for an afternoon tea? A lot of afternoon tea venues will offer an option where you can add prosecco or champagne. Some of our favourite venues for afternoon tea are Six Restaurant in the art gallery The Baltic and Jesmond Dene House in the stunning historic park Jesmond Dene.

Bigg Market

Uh oh, your weekend is about to get really messy. If you’re coming to Newcastle on a hen, then you have to go to The Bigg Market. With its wild reputation preceding it, this is where you want to go for a mad one. Although, it’s not as quite as rough and ready as it used to be, there are a ton of swanky bars now such as Revolución de Cuba and toilet-turned-into-a-classy-bar WC.

Quayside Bars

Nowhere in Newcastle looks nicer than the Quayside at night with all of the bridges and the lights from various buildings dancing in the water. You’ve got super bars here such as Pitcher & Piano and By The River on the Gateshead side. We’d recommend grabbing a drink here before heading to the Bigg Market and/or the Diamond Strip.

Cocktail Making Workshop

Get behind the bar yourself and come up with your very own cocktail creations by taking part in a cocktail making workshop. An expert mixologist will teach you all the tips and tricks you need to be able to shake your way to the perfect cocktail. Loads of places in Newcastle offer cocktail making classes such as Be at One cocktail bar, ChaChaBuchi and Fridays. A cocktail making workshop is the perfect ice breaker if your group don’t all know each other.

Take in City Views from a Rooftop Bar

We couldn’t recommend the Above Bar that’s found on top of The Vermont Hotel enough. Here you will enjoy a gorgeous view of Newcastle, it’s especially nice at sunset. As well as being the perfect backdrop for your hen do pics, it also has an impressive cocktail list ranging from your cocktail classics to delicious signature cocktails. Just make sure to book a time slot or you might miss out (speaking from experience here!).

Stay in a Hen House

A popular hen party trend is staying in a Hen Party House. Having a house means your group gets a private space that you can relax and pre-drink in. You could even host activities in the house such as having a beauty therapist coming to you and making you all up before your big night out. There’s brilliant hen party accommodation in Newcastle such as the lush Honeypot House, which has a range of super cool apartments, including a couple that are Alice in Wonderland themed.

A Day at the Races

Located within High Gosforth Park, just out of town, Newcastle Racecourse is one of Britain’s busiest racecourses, meaning you can enjoy a ladies day betting on horses. There are several lovely restaurants onsite (including the super Instagrammable pods), and you can place bets onsite or online. With a buzzing atmosphere like no other, this is sure to make you giddy (up) with excitement!

Escape Room

have been around for a while now, but they are a cracking thing to do on your hen do. Working together as a group you must race against the clock to do missions and solve puzzles in order to, you got it, escape the room! There are lots of different escape rooms in Newcastle including EXIT Newcastle that has themes such as taking part in a heist and diffusing a bomb in order to save Newcastle.

Shopping

Newcastle sure does give other cities a run for its money when it comes to shopping. There’s Eldon Square that you can find right in the heart of Newcastle with all your typical clothing brands such as New Look, H & M and Levi’s. There’s also The Metro Centre in Gateshead, boasting over two hundred and seventy stores, which is just a short train ride or drive away.

Catch a Show at the Theatre Royal

Who says you need to be in London to enjoy a good musical? We get all of the West End’s best shows that come up north every year to the brilliant Theatre Royal.
