 | Art - There’s an art to navigating a banana into your nether regions, let us tell you |
If you don’t think of tulips, windmills and clogs when you think of Amsterdam (there’s always one), you’ll think of the Red Light District. Everything you’ve heard is probably true; this central hub, just a stone’s throw from Cantraal Train Station, has everything you could possibly wish for on a lads’ trip away. De Wallen the brightest (literally) and most attractive (again, literally) spot in the capital for stag dos. It’s jam-packed full of attractive women, gallons of booze and a generous helping Rock ‘n’ Roll – it’s, basically, a Sex Pistols video in real life. And, if that doesn’t sell it to you, we think you should go home and have a word with yourself.
The Red Light District, split into three zones but with De Wallen the most famous, is the main reason Amsterdam has such an X-rated reputation preceding it. With the highest concentration of ‘coffee shops’ (where you can buy and smoke marijuana legally), sex shops and museums, adult theatres and around 300 red-lit windows with prostitutes, making more than €650 million per year, it’s a unique, must see experience. The warren of medieval alleyways – originally established for passing sailors – are centred around an old church. This is where sailors would confess the sins after ‘window shopping’ the previous night…
