Best Dublin Nightlife Areas for a Stag Do

Dublin’s nightlife is spread across several key areas, each with its own vibe. Temple Bar is the iconic hub, packed with pubs, live music, and a buzzing tourist atmosphere. For late-night clubs and high-energy venues, Wexford, Harcourt, and Camden Street are unbeatable, with spots like Copper Face Jacks and Whelan’s. If you want a more local feel and cheaper pints, head north of the Liffey, where you'll find traditional pubs and unique venues like The Church. For a trendier, slightly more upmarket scene, Baggot Street to George Street offers stylish cocktail bars and lively pubs, perfect for mixing rowdy fun with a touch of class.

  • Temple Bar

The Temple Bar is Dublin personified. This all-encompassing stag hotspot is lined with pubs and bars, and that’s no exaggeration… The venues are crammed into a hugely busy street, with small alleys leading off the main ‘strip’ to even more pubs. There’s a reason this is the biggest attraction in the city.

  • Wexford / Harcourt / Camden Street

We’re heading into edgy and alternative nightlife in Wexford Street, with the likes of Whelan’s attracting Ed Sheeran. However, as you snake your way down to Harcourt Street, it’s like you never left the Temple Bar. Bursting with massive clubs, it’s loud, lively and open ‘til very late… On the way to Harcourt Street, you’ll pass Camden – a quirky and hipster ‘strip’ to sink a few real ales and craft beers whilst twiddling your handlebar moustache.

  • North of the Liffey

The nightlife doesn’t stop at Temple Bar… Pass through the district and over the river, and you’ll experience the more traditional side of Dublin. This is where you’ll see the real city, where the locals drink. The nightlife stretches from O’Connell Street, to Jervis and the adjacent Capel Street.

  • Baggot Street to George Street

As you might have already guessed, Dublin nightlife is not narrowed down to one ‘strip’. It spans from Baggot Street, which is home to one of the city’s oldest pubs, all the way to the modern George Street, host to an A-list club. You’re also right in the thick of Dublin’s big shopping district, to pick up Dublin souvenirs (leprechaun fridge magnets etc.).

Cultural Things to do on your Dublin Stag Do

If your Dublin knowledge is limited to a ginger bloke called Paddy and a potent black beer, you probably should get yourselves a bit more cultured on your stag weekend in Dublin. Here's exactly how you can, with our top 10 ways to tick the cultural box in Dublin.

  • https://media.lastnightoffreedom.co.uk/i/Webpages/stag-guide/cultural-dub-guinness-factory.jpg - Rank #1

    Guinness Storehouse

St. James' Gate, Ushers, Dublin 8, Ireland
    Guinness Factory Tour

It’s number one for a reason. This one’s essential to tick off any stag do in the Irish city. The birthplace of the country’s best expat (other than Robbie Keane) is the city’s most popular attraction, with seven floors of Guinness history to explore. The giant pint glass of a building (which can hold 14.3 million pints of the good stuff, FYI), has seen the likes of Taylor Swift, Barack Obama, Tom Cruise, the entire Lord of the Rings cast and even The Queen pass through its gates – and if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for your stag do. A trip to the Guinness Storehouse is educational, cultural and you can sink a few pints in the Gravity Bar at the top, too. Everyone’s a winner.

  • https://media.lastnightoffreedom.co.uk/i/Webpages/stag-guide/cultural-dub-jameson.jpg - Rank #2

    Old Jameson Distillery

Bow St, Smithfield Village, Dublin 7, Ireland
    Visit Website

The Old Jameson Distillery is the former home of the world’s best-selling whiskey, Jameson. The enchanting distillery is packed full of history and insights into producing the liquid nectar. Similarly to the Guinness Factory, any trip here is semi-cultural, semi-p*ss up – our favourite kind of semi. It’s also got a huge bar where you can sample your favourite tipples. All in the name of absorbing the culture, of course…

  • https://media.lastnightoffreedom.co.uk/i/Webpages/stag-guide/cultural-dub-croke-park.jpg - Rank #3

    Croke Park / GAA Museum

    10 St Joseph's Ave, Ballybough, Dublin 3, D03 NF29, Ireland
    Visit Website

Croke Park is as much an icon in Dublin as the Temple Bar. This is the home of the Gaelic Games, Ireland’s traditional (and complicated) sport. It’s steeped in over a century of history, has a massive capacity of 82,000 and you can even take a tour around it. The weird and wonderful sports include Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and even hurling (a hockey-come-cricket-come egg and spoon race hybrid, obvs). We’re not going to pretend we understand all of the intricate rules to the sport, but we’ll happily try our hand at a spot of Gaelic Games. When in Rome ‘n’ that.

  • https://media.lastnightoffreedom.co.uk/i/Webpages/stag-guide/cultural-dub-temple-bar.jpg - Rank #4

    Temple Bar

    Temple Bar, Dublin 2, Ireland

Temple Bar, Dublin’s cultural quarter, is known the world over for its lively atmosphere 24/7 and its unmissable nightlife scene. You’ll recognise the Temple Bar itself from pretty much every iconic photo you’ve ever seen of Dublin, but the area boasts lots more than just the lively red corner building; there’s The Auld Dubliner, Oliver St John Gogarty and The Porterhouse Central to name but a few huge pubs in the area, all boasting live music, free-flowing drinks and enough craic to sink a battleship.

  • https://media.lastnightoffreedom.co.uk/i/Webpages/stag-guide/cultural-dub-dublin-castle.jpg - Rank #5

    Dublin Castle

    Dame St, Dublin 2, Ireland
    Visit Website

Dating back to the 13th century, on the site of a Viking settlement, Dublin Castle is an impressive building, with six iconic towers to its name. It’s €8 to get in, making it one of the cheaper Dublin tourist attractions. Plus, as it’s just on the outskirts of the Temple Bar, you won’t have to walk far from the very best Dublin bars to tick this one off your list.

  • https://media.lastnightoffreedom.co.uk/i/Webpages/stag-guide/cultural-dub-brazen-head.jpg - Rank #6

    The Brazen Head

20 Lower Bridge St, Merchants Quay, Dublin 8, D08 WC64, Ireland
    Visit Website

The Brazen Head is Dublin’s oldest pub, set just a 10-minute walk from the Temple Bar. Dating back to at least 1613, with word on the street that the site has housed a tavern or alehouse since 1198, it’s worth a visit for the history alone, but it’s also renowned for serving some of the best pints in the city (ah, so now you’re listening). Its castle-like exterior will lure in your inner child and the huge range of beers will keep any stag group occupied all day and night. It’s a great place to spend the afternoon and is widely regarded as an excellent 'warm up' before you head over to the Temple Bar area.

  • https://media.lastnightoffreedom.co.uk/i/Webpages/stag-guide/cultural-dub-st-stephens-green.jpg - Rank #7

    St. Stephen’s Green

St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2, Ireland

Located in the very centre of Dublin, St. Stephen’s Green offers a whopping nine hectares of plush green park land, ideal for a bit of chillaxing (read: sorting those hangovers out) after a heavy previous night. Just a stone’s throw away from Camden, Harcourt and Wexford streets (and all of their edgy, alternative bars), once you’ve recharged your batteries, you can get right back on it.

  • https://media.lastnightoffreedom.co.uk/i/Webpages/stag-guide/cultural-dub-kilmainham-gaol.jpg - Rank #8

A former prison may not be the first thing you think of when you think ‘stag do’, but this one is pretty cool. Structurally, the building is very interesting and has been used as the set for several movies and even the BBC drama, Ripper Street. Now a museum, this place has housed some pretty famous crooks, including the likes of Irish revolutionaries, who were imprisoned and executed here.

  • https://media.lastnightoffreedom.co.uk/i/Webpages/stag-guide/cultural-dub-little-museum-of-dublin.jpg - Rank #9

    Little Museum of Dublin

15 St Stephen's Green, Dublin, Ireland

This much-loved museum in central Dublin will give you a rundown of Dublin history from the 20th century, right up to date. So, if your Dublin knowledge is limited to Leprecauns, you might just learn a thing or two here. Plus, similarly to St. Stephen’s Green, it’s just seconds from the Camden, Harcourt and Wexford streets grid of bars – including the world famous music haunt, Whelan’s – meaning you won’t have to travel far for your next pint.

  • https://media.lastnightoffreedom.co.uk/i/Webpages/stag-guide/cultural-dub-the-church-bar.jpg - Rank #10

    The Church Bar

Junction of Mary St. and Jervis St., Dublin 1, Dublin, D01YX64, Ireland

Checking out the local architecture is all well and good, but you’re missing out on valuable drinking time on your stag do – which is why The Church bar and restaurant is the ideal haunt to kill two birds with one stone. Housed in an actual former church, this venue now houses a cafe, nightclub and fantastic outdoor BBQ area for those balmy Dublin nights. There’s a main bar, cellar bar and tower bar, all selling a wealth of craft beers and contemporary cocktails, leaving you lot with plenty of space to spread out and get your rounds in. Amen to that.

June to August has nice weather but it’s peak tourist season which can mean more expensive flights etc. Autumn has slightly less good weather, but it is less crowded than in the summer.

Yes, you can wear fancy dress in Dublin, but there are a few things to keep in mind. Some venues are happy to welcome groups in fancy dress (especially stag/hen-friendly spots in Temple Bar), but others have strict rules against costumes or matching outfits. We’d always suggest checking ahead.

Dublin is a very popular spot for stag parties, but there are a few rules and expectations to keep in mind. Anti-social behaviour (shouting, fighting, vandalism) can quickly get you refused entry to venues or even arrested. Dublin has strict rules about disorderly conduct. No drinking is allowed on buses, the DART (commuter train), or Luas (tram). Taxis are generally fine with stag groups as long as everyone behaves.
