Best Manchester Nightlife Areas for a Stag Do

Manchester is truly a stag’s playground. It has multiple areas to explore. For example the well-known Northern Quarter, that’s full of quirky and fun bars, the mile-long Deansgate, which has as ton of chain bars and clubs, upmarket Spinningfields, with its classy watering holes, and Deansgate Locks, which has several bars set inside converted railway arches.

    Northern Quarter

    This well-known area is found in the northern part of Manchester. It's packed with quirky bars, cool street art and independent shops. Here you'll find the independent shopping centre Afflecks. There are lots of fun bars to check out too. For example Dusk till Pawn, that has a front like a pawn shop and sells cocktails and craft beer, and Twenty Twenty-Two, which has loads of ping pong tables for both ping pong and beer pong.

    Deansgate

    Stretching a mile, from the Cathedral to Beetham Tower, Deansgate runs through the heart of Manchester. Here you can find some of the city’s most popular nightlife venues such as clubs Chinawhite and Club Liv and bars like sports bar BOX and The Deansgate, a traditional boozer. You can also find entertainment venues like Lane 7, an American-themed boutique bowling alley, and Point Blank, a bar where you can do VR shooting.

    Spinningfields

    Spinningfields is the city’s financial district that’s packed with classy venues. Classy venues include 20 Stories, which is a rooftop bar serving an extensive wine menu and offering awesome city views. There’s also a range of chain bars like Revolución de Cuba, where you can party till the small hours, and The Alchemist, known for their crazy science-themed drinks. Here you'll find some unique bars like The Gas Lamp, which is a quirky Victorian basement serving real ales.

    Deansgate Locks

    Found a mile away from Deansgate, this buzzing canalside area is home to some of the rowdiest (and most fun) party goers.     This epic sports bar, found on Deansgate, has a whopping twenty-five HD screens showing all of the best Sky, TNT and Box Office sports events from Formula 1 to boxing to the Six Nations. The Box has a relaxed atmosphere by day, where you can sink some pints of craft beer and catch the game. At night, it really comes to life with a brill party atmosphere. It also boasts live music, ‘Bandeoke’ (where you sing karaoke with a live band!) every Thursday, and you can even play shuffleboard. Sports lovers don’t miss this one off your list.

This lively cocktail bar, situated just off of Deansgate, plays the greatest guitar music of the last five decades, so you might hear music from the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Smiths (obvs, it’s Manchester), The White Stripes and The Specials. Boom Battle Bar is packed to the rafters with different games you can play. If you go in the day, the atmosphere can be pretty chill, but come the night its packed with party goers dancing to Manchester’s hottest DJs until the early hours.     Yet another bar set within The Printworks (make a note to check out this fab complex), this Bavarian-themed bar is an absolute riot. The venue is split into three distinct areas. The Bierkeller which is where you’ve got the classic long benches and all of the Bavarian parties take place, The Lodge, which is a relaxed cocktail and bier bar with more chilled-out vibes, and Shooters, which is a sports bar equipped with bar games like pool, darts and beer pong. The bar offers steins of bier and with a food menu selling pizza and German hot dogs, you could certainly do wurst…

    Situated in the upmarket Spinningfields area (but with reasonable prices), Cuban-themed nightlife venue, Revolución de Cuba is spread over two floors. Upstairs you’ve got the Cuban cocktail bar, where you can get tapas and of course… cocktails. Downstairs you’ve got the club room, where you can party the night away, and also the rum bar, where you can enjoy some of the finest rums from around the globe. Revolución de Cuba often has live music playing and this combined with the décor and the refreshing range of cocktails you can get, you’re sure to feel like you’re on your jollies.

    This place, that you’ll find in the Northern Quarter, has a great reputation for doing craft beer. It has even featured in The Guardian for being one of the best craft beer pubs to hit up. Providing a warm and comfortable atmosphere, Port Street Beer house has been serving craft beer from the UK and further afield since they opened in 2011. They’ve got eighteen keg lines and seven cask lines, plus hundreds of cans and bottles from the world’s best breweries that they rotate in and out. They even host special events including ‘Meet the brewer’ evenings that they do regularly.

If you’re interested in the music history of Manchester, then the Science and Industry Museum has a fab exhibit on Tony Wilson, who founded Factory Records that famously launched the careers of Manchester greats Joy Division, New Order and Happy Mondays. There’s also a great exhibit on Rolls-Royce, which started its life in Manchester.     Manchester Art Gallery

    This magnificent art gallery, that’s two hundred years old, houses over 14,000 works, including an impressive 2,000 oil paintings, 350 sculptures, a selection of watercolours, drawings, prints, posters, and photographs. There’s lots of pieces of work based around Spring, Dutch works of art and work by artist Annie Louisa Swynnerton. The gallery is free to enter, if you fancy having a neb at this mega collection of art. A great bonus of going to an art gallery on a stag do is walking around the sculptures and pointing to your mate and going ‘that’s you’!

    This is technically an entertainment complex, but it’s cultural because it has a cinema alright?! Located in the heart of Manchester, the Printworks is home to twenty plus bars, restaurants, and leisure activities, including the second-biggest IMAX screen in Europe. Here you’ll find all of your favourite chain bars and restaurants such as Spoons, Nando’s, Yates and Walkabout. You’ll also find brilliant Bavarian nightlife venue, where steins of beer and dancing on the tables are on the menu. As well as Boom Battle Bar, that’s packed with all kinds of fun and games such as American pool, axe throwing, darts and shuffleboard.

Staying Safe in Manchester

With its northern charm, it’s easy to feel safe in Manchester, but as with every city you should follow safety guidelines to make sure that your trip is enjoyable and relaxed. We’ve compiled a few handy safety tips:

Create a WhatsApp chat for your group and put the address of where you’re staying in it (including any passcodes you need to get in) to make sure you’ve all got it

It’s best not to let any members of your group go off on their own and to have at least two of you together at all times

Manchester is famously home to a ton of canals. When you’re drunk be extra mindful around water and keep an eye on your pals

Don’t leave your drink unattended to reduce the risk of spiking

Be mindful of pickpockets, taking care not to put any of your valuables in places such as back pockets, where they can be accessed easily

Getting to Manchester

Manchester Airport to City Centre

Manchester Airport can be found approx seven miles from the city centre. Getting to central Manchester from the airport is dead easy; you can get a train direct to the city centre or you can get a tram to just outside of the city, then change onto another tram for a short ride into Manchester. You can of course phone a taxi, but that’s a pricier option.

Getting Around Manchester

Manchester is the biggest city in the north, so whilst a lot of it certainly is walkable, it might be worth hopping on a tram or bus to get you from the Northern Quarter to the south of the city.
