Scotland’s third most populous city may hold the nicknames of Granite City and Grey City, but it’s anything but dull. Due to the buildings being made from locally quarried grey granite, which can sparkle like silver because of its high mica content, the city glistens under the sun, leaving all visitors with a cheeky sparkle in their eye and an undisputed desire to return.
Although often shadowed by its bigger brothers, Edinburgh and Glasgow, the lively locals and rowdy students keep Aberdeen’s nightlife alive. With two universities, Aberdeen's student rate of 11.5% is higher than the national average of 7%, which can only mean one thing – more drinking spots. The city can be broken up into distinct districts, all with differing vibes and raucous bars and clubs. Easily walkable, you’ll probably stumble across (literally) all of the main nightlife haunts on your stag weekend here.

Institute is the largest club in Aberdeen, with some of the UK’s biggest DJs pumping out the very best in EDM, backed by state of the art sound and lighting systems across in the multilevel nightclub – Vanity Fridays and Institute Saturdays among the most popular. Located in the West End neighbourhood, the converted ecclesiastical church, Babylon, is also extremely popular, dripping with candlelight, velvet and sacred relics swapped for strobe lighting and plush red decor. If you’re looking for something a little more ‘underground’, Aberdeen won’t disappoint; nestled unassumingly beneath Union Street, The Tunnels has become one of the city’s best live music venues and is certainly worth checking out.
If you fancy getting a spot of culture through the day, Aberdeen is full of it. With heaps of history in the guise of castles, historic jails, cathedrals and museums, it’s easy to get that culture box ticked on your stag weekend, between all that bar crawling and banter. There’s even a beach where you can catch the rays, although, we recommend that you pack a jumper just in case, as highs in the peaks of summer still only average at a moderate 18°C.
