We can’t mention Nottingham without mentioning the iconic Sherwood Forest. The place where fictional hero Robin Hood got up to most of his ‘robbing from the poor and giving to the rich’ antics, this place is truly legendary. It’s home to the ‘Major Oak’, which is one heck of a tree. No one knows how old this tree is, but it’s estimated between 800 – 1100 years old. It’s not only a super cool place to visit, but it’s somewhere that you can take part in stag activities. You can play here, which will see you trying your hand at archery and knife throwing.

You can yourself go underground and discover a large section of these caves that are made available to the public. Here you can find World War Two air raid shelters and even a medieval tannery. If you bring headphones then there is an audio guide available. The network of caves is super atmospheric and incredibly unique. It’s highly recommended to book a ticket in advance for this because it gets really booked up.

Yes, we are trying to pass off a pub as culture like we do in several of our guides. To be fair it’s dead old and really cool so it ought to count. Built in 1189, this is England's oldest surviving inn. It’s built into stone caves and is even said to have resident ghosts, including Yorkey, who was the landlord between 1894 – 1914. The pub has all kinds of quirky décor for you to take a look at such as The Cursed Galleon, a wooden model galleon that can’t be cleaned because the last three people to clean it met with a mysterious end….
