Open-Air Bars

BUILD YOUR budapest STAG

In a city renowned for its open air bars, it would be a crime not to spend at least some of your stag do testing them out.

Temperatures can soar to 30°C in Budapest summers, which is as good of an excuse as any to get yourselves in those beer gardens and get drinking… Egészségére! (That’s cheers to you and us).

Let's get started.

1. 360 Bar

Andrássy út 39, Budapest, 1061

Take your stag do into the skies, in this glorious rooftop bar.

Offering a huge range of drinks, all to a backdrop of perhaps the best view in the city – Bar 360 is seriously popular. So much so, this bar gets pretty rammed, so get there early if you want a good seat to watch the sunset behind iconic Budapest landmarks. Prices are a little steeper than in other bars, but for the view you’re getting, it’s definitely worth it.

2. Doboz

Budapest, Klauzál u. 10, Budapest, 1072

The interior of Bier Keller, Newcastle, with wooden benches and seats

One of the largest ruin bars in the whole of the Jewish Quarter, Doboz, has a whopping capacity of 1,500.

Super popular with stag groups, especially during the summer months, Doboz’s ancient courtyard is now a suave drinking den. There’s even a 300 year old tree in the centre of the courtyard, which is actually the oldest in the district. Keep an eye out for the huge metal gorilla roaming the courtyard – first to spot it gets his first round paid for. It’s tradition, after all…

3. Szimpla Kert

There’s Szimply nowhere like it.

You may have noticed that many of the bars in Budapest have ‘kert’ within their names – which means ‘back yard’ in Hungarian. Back yard drinking has become a Budapest institution of late, with hundreds of stag dos taking to the quirky, mismatched furniture on the outdoor terraces, to sup their tipples. The formerly dilapidated courtyard of Szimpla Kert has hipster lighting and bric-a-brac strung from every nook and cranny, and is a must on any visit to the city.

4. Romkert

Döbrentei tér 9, Budapest, 1013

The interior of Bier Keller, Newcastle, with wooden benches and seats

Get ruined in the ruin garden.

Located on the Buda side of the city, you’ll have to make the journey over the Danube to drink in Romkert, but it’s definitely worth the journey. Hungarian for ‘ruin garden’, Romkert is a fully outdoor ruin club, located at the foot of Gellert Hill. Playing chart toppers and up-to-date tunes with popular DJ sets, the crowd Romkert attracts is much more mainstream and smart than other ruin bars. Playing out like a festival every night of the week, this open air disco is constantly bursting with trendy young things.
